Remembering the Reason........

We celebrate Memorial Day to remember all men & women who are serving and who have served in our military.

Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day. It was officially proclaimed on May 5, 1868 by General John Logan commander of the Grand Army of the Republic. It was first observed on May 30, 1868 when flowers were placed on the graves of Union & Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery. May 30th was chosen because flowers would be in bloom

My tablescape is one small way we will celebrate our freedom this weekend.

I used my cobalt blue glass chargers. I bought them in a thrift store called "Something Special" in Texas. It supports domestic violence, rape & abused women. The white plates were used in my last post. The salad plate is Ralph Lauren "Hampton's Flag. "  My everyday flatware is Paul Revere.

The tablecloth, I made years ago for our old wooden picnic table!
I even forgot I had it.

I went junkin' last Friday and bought this cute runner for $.50 and the darling Trio of Flameless Candles for $2.00! The vases of roses I had taken from the bathroom & bedroom.

This was a terrific find a few weeks ago at Goodwill for $3.00. I hope you can see it is a pale yellow and graduates to blue. So cool!

These are my favorite wine glasses .....my cousin who has since passed, gave them to me.
They are priceless! Memories....isn't that what life is...making memories!

Candles & a little bling just set the mood for me.
I tend to use them a lot as centerpieces.

Thanks for visiting me. I hope you and yours have a great Memorial Weekend with those you love. Mr. Sweetladyelaine and I will be spending Monday dinner with some friends. I am missing my family but I know God is watching over them for me.

Pray for our President, Country & Military Families this week.
I often forget, so I will be making a special effort this week!

Blessings My Friend,

                                                        God Bless America

While the storm clouds gather far across the sea,
Let us swear allegiance to a land that's free.
Let us all be grateful for a land so fair,
As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer:

God bless America, land that I love,
Stand beside her and guide her
Through the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans white with foam,
                            God bless America,
                            My home sweet home.

  3. First, I have to tell you that your blog header is gorgeous! Your patriotic table looks so festive. How great to find a tablecloth you'd forgotten about and it be so perfect for this tablescape. I don't think I've ever seen those R.L. plates. Love those. I am so glad the battery powered candles have come such a long way. My husband has allergies, and I can never use scented candles. Besides, they compete with the food smells. Yours look pretty on your cake plate, and I love the red ribbon addition to the cake plate. laurie

    1. I have done the same thing! Then I could kick myself for selling or giving them away! To ease my feelings, I tell myself, something better will come along. Thank you for stopping by...

  6. I love that tablecloth, Elaine! It reminds me of hundreds of little postage stamps!

The Ralph Lauren salad plates rock! I haven't seen that pattern (because I've been trying to avert my eyes to anything i might actually want to buy in stores these days!), but it's beautiful. Totally Ralph! Classic and clean and totally on point. Love it!

I do pray for our president. All of us should. Even if we didn't vote for the guy, he is the elected leader of our country and has a huge job. Along with the members of Congress, he is responsible for much of what happens in and to our country. We need to put rhetoric and politics aside and remember that - like him or not - as true patriots we need to support his efforts. That's not to say we have to agree with or like every policy. Just saying that we need to be cognizant of the fact that the eyes of the world are upon us, and our country is only as strong as its least patriotic & supportive citizen.

    Have a good weekend!

I believe in the power of prayer. I too, think we should pray for our leaders whether we voted for them or not. We need to support who God has put in power. Thank you for visiting me...Have a great weekend!
