A Little Hint

When my friend Ruby and I went to Thomball, Texas shopping,we visited a row of antique stores that were off the main street. We saw lots of beautiful things! I bought a feather Christmas tree that I had hoped to use for a Valentine tablescape. I have not unpacked it as of yet.  We were milling around and one section caught our eye...the store owner had covered her shelves in lace. When we looked closer, we realized that the lace was vinyl! We thought her shelves looked very pretty! What a great idea! I tucked it away in my mind for a future project.  After talking about the shelves we had realized we saw the material in one of our favorite shops. We just couldn't remember where.

Anyway, I moved to Illinois. I had to put paper in my kitchen cabinets and decided to go find this vinyl lace for my new cabinets. But where do I look to find it? I checked Hobby Lobby and  a few other stores until I found it at Jo Ann's.It is a tablecloth that you purchase by the yard.  I bought 6 yards, I think.

Mr. Sweetladyelaine said he would help me....I thought maybe he thought I couldn't  do a good job but soon realized my cabinets were so high that I can only reach the first shelf! I needed a step stool to reach the rest and I didn't have one. He did it all! lol Here he is clowning around!

I love the idea that you can wash it when you want to clean out your drawers. It looks really pretty when you open the drawers and cabinets. I am so glad I used it.

It was a bit pricey at $6.99 a yard. I wonder if  tablecloths would work? I will file that away for future reference.

It looks really nice inside the cabinets.

Here you can see it laid out. Mr. Sweetladyelaine put it on cardboard, measured and used a box cutter to cut it.

You can see the pattern better in this photo. If you are afraid it will move in your cabinets, you can use double sided tape to hold it secure. I have not had a problem.

I think it will last longer than paper. I am tired of replacing the paper. I used wallpaper in my drawers in the bathrooms. I do not stick it to the bottom, though. It is too hard to get it up and it may ruin the wood. I also have used wrapping paper in my dresser drawers.

Do you have any other suggestions? I do not want the corners to curl. I want to be able to wipe the drawers/cabinets out. I want durable and pretty! If you have any hints please let me know.....

By the way....I LOVE MY NEW HOME!!!!! I can't wait until I find my special spot! Do you have one in your home? I can't wait to share mine with you!

Thanks for stopping by.....as always make Jesus number 1 in your life!

Blessings My Friend,

Are you fighting with the adversary today?  Are Satan, the world, and the flesh all against you?  Do not be discouraged nor dismayed.  Fight on!  For God Himself is with you.  Jehovah Nissi is your banner, and Jehovah Rophi is the healer of your wounds.  Do not fear, you will overcome, for who can defeat Omnipotence? Fight on, "looking to Jesus"; 2  and although the conflict is long and tough, the victory will be sweet, and the promised reward will be glorious.

From strength to strength go on;
Wrestle, and fight, and pray,
Tread all the powers of darkness down,
And win the well-fought day.

Yorktowne Memories

As I sit here unpacking my Yorktowne dishes, I am thinking how much I love them!
I bought them 35 years ago when I was going to get married to my daughter's father.
I got rid of the husband but kept the dishes! lol

I bought a 12 piece place setting and had put the rest of the pieces on my bridal registry. I received almost all the rest of the pieces for shower gifts. I didn't want china, we could buy those later on when we went overseas. (young & foolish) I ended up buying a pieces here and there and soon had a place setting for 24.

Last year I just gave my daughter a place setting of 12. I gave her blue glasses to go with them and I kept all the Yorktowne glasses, canisters and  serving  pieces. Only to tell her I would give them to her the next time I went home. They are getting to heavy for me. I need a lighter set of dishes. Little did I know I was to become a dishaholic!  lol
Maybe I did have a hint in the back of my mind! lol

A tablescape I did using Yorktowne dishes in my Buffalo house.

I wonder how many of you really love one set of dishes....I mean a very special pattern?
Is there a story to tell? There almost always is.....

I remember setting my Christmas table with them for years. It was always so pretty. This was before I had a laptop so I don't have any pictures to show you...I wish I did. You could see my first house that I bought with the help of my Dad. A little two bedroom bungalow. I loved that house. I lived there 6 years before I had met Mr. Sweetladyelaine.

I am so glad I have these memories of my Yorktowne dishes. Funny but my daughter loves them too!
They are the dishes she grew up using and now she can use them in her own home.
I hope they will be cherished as much as I have cherished them. I never worried about breaking them. I would just go to Goodwill and buy another. lol

I have been absent for a few weeks and I have so much to share with you......Hope you don't mind!
Moving and unpacking has taken up most of my days!
I am happy you haven't forgotten me and that you stopped by....

Stop by again.....

Blessings My Friends,
Memories...that's all we have......make them good ones!

The Zoo has landed!!!!!!

just to let all my followers know......

Our zoo is safely in a hotel waiting for the closing on our new house. Peanut, Chloe, Sweet Pea and Chicken all had a long ride but did extremely well. There were a few tough moments in the car, but everyone was  patient.  They were thrilled when we stopped for the night. Peanut fell right to sleep. The poor dear is old and sick. I was worried about her the most. We took two days to get to Illinois. It was the best for everyone!

The move was relatively painless. It was faster than we had expected and we left Texas a day early. I am looking forward to the unloading of our furniture into our new house. I am ready to unpack and get busy. I am sure I will be exhausted but it will be a welcomed feeling.

Moving Pictures.......

Dish Closet
I did hear a few crashes while they were packing this closet......I am worried!

My husband in the garage

This is Sweet Pea with the apple she stole from a movers backpack!
She loves apples! LOL

Peanut slept through the whole move! Poor baby...

The truck made a big entrance

What will I miss about Texas...........my pool!

Thank you for stopping by today. I miss sharing with you. I hope all is well with you. If I can say a special prayer for you let me know. I pray for you everyday, anyway.

Christmas & Christmas Eve

Just wanted to post my tables for Christmas and Christmas Eve. It was a cozy dinner for two on both days. Actually our first holiday alone. I just made sure I set the table pretty and had a very simple dinner planned because we did not want too many leftovers.

Christmas Eve has been celebrated in our family forever....first with my moms family. As my cousins had children, we decided to celebrate with our own families. My mom was the twelfth child. I have 31 first cousins not counting their spouses. We just got too big!
We celebrate the Feast of the  Seven Fishes. My sister in law hosts Christmas Eve....it is not unusual for her to have twenty or more people.
Since it was just the two of us, we decided to have just what we each could not do without!  I made an antipasto, shrimp cocktails and anchovies with spaghetti. There is an Italian name for the spaghetti but I don't know how to spell it. lol

Christmas Eve

The dishes are Haviland.

Christmas Day

Country Roses dishes.....

I liked the centerpiece I used. I put a rose in each cruet with  mismatched candlesticks. Each candlestick had a white ribbon with gold edges and tied into a bow.

A big thank you to my husband for taking these pictures. I was busy preparing our food and he did the honors.

I hope all of you had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Please leave a comment and Come back and visit. I will be moving this coming week. I will take pictures of our move. This time it won't be a trip across the country, just a state or two!

Blessings My Friend,
